B. used relatively—as the indecl. relat. pron. er is sometimes used for
at, we also find at sometimes used for er.

1. causative—since, because, hann skal...mla sva: at ek fœri yr
(sc. maga) at per erut i einum hrepp allir. Grag. u. 8. i. 2O13. as, in
that, because you all inhabit the same district,
eigi er kvnligt at Skarp-
heinn s hraustr, at bat er mlt at fjrungi bregi til fstrs. Nj. 42,
64. since it is said—these approach nearly to at = v at, with vi
left out.

2. temporal—as, when, jafnan er mcr verra hug er ek ferr
braut aan, enn at ek kem. Gretl. Cod. I513. sem ek kva at
ek lysta. Nj. 142, 233. ar til at vr vitum hvrt fundr vrr mun vera,
ok bnda. Fms. v. 53.

3. as a relative pronoun—who, which, en engi mun s, at mitmisa-
mara mun vera um enna atbur...enn mr. Laxd. 55, 242. Gurn er
komin gegnt rekkju eirri, at Kjartan var vanr at liggja i. 46, 202.

4. used superfiuoufly in relative propositions, me fullkomniun vexti
